Every child learns differently—and our PTSA is here to make sure all families feel supported, informed, and included. Whether your student receives services through an IEP, 504 plan, or IHP, or you’re simply looking for resources, we’re here to help you navigate the journey.

How Our PTSA Supports Families

❤️ We help connect families with each other

Many parents want to talk with others who understand their experiences. We help facilitate to share opportunities to meet, learn, and build community at both the school and district levels. We work with the LWPTSA Council Special Education Group (SEG), which works to support families of students receiving special services. 

📣 We share helpful information and events

We make sure families know about district meetings, workshops, and educational sessions. SEG hosts monthly meetings with speakers on topics such as local resources, assistive technology, and district updates. 

📚 We point you to trusted resources

From the district’s Special Services department to the PTSA lending library and parent-education materials, we help families find tools that support their child’s learning. SEG maintains resources and updates on news and topics important to the special education community.

What Special Education Looks Like in LWSD

The Lake Washington School District’s Special Services department provides support for students with disabilities or health needs through:

  • Special Education services
  • 504 Accommodations
  • Health Services

Their goal is to give every student the tools and support they need to benefit from their educational program. Special education in LWSD is a set of services—not a separate place. Supports are tailored to each student based on their Individualized Education Program (IEP), created in collaboration with families and educators. [lwsd.org]

Services may include classroom support, specialized instruction, preschool programs, intervention centers, and transition programs for older students. [lwsd.org]
