Emergency Preparedness at Our School

Keeping students safe is one of our PTSA’s most important responsibilities. We work closely with school staff and the district to help ensure that, in any kind of emergency, our school community is as prepared and supported as possible.

What Our PTSA Does to Support Emergency Preparedness

🧰 We help maintain emergency supplies

Our PTSA helps manage and supports the emergency supplies kept at school. This includes maintaining classroom kits and ensuring that needed materials are updated and ready to use. The district encourages PTSAs to help manage supplies as part of its overall emergency preparedness framework. We purchased reunification cards for the school to be on-hand during emergencies.

📘 We support preparedness education

The PTSA works with school administration and district partners to help promote age‑appropriate safety education and awareness. This may include sharing resources, helping communicate safety procedures, or supporting events that teach families how to be prepared at home as well. The LWPTSA Emergency Preparedness Committee’s mission specifically includes “preparedness education” and community engagement.

🏫 We assist with drills and school-wide readiness

We support the principal and staff during school drills and ensure that procedures are understood and practiced. The district emphasizes working closely with school leadership to build a resilient safety culture.

🤝 We connect with the district’s E‑Prep Committee

Our PTSA stays in touch with the LWPTSA Council Emergency Preparedness Committee, which provides training, resources, and guidance to every school’s emergency prep chair. Their mission is to take a “whole‑community” approach—meaning all of us share responsibility for keeping our schools safe and prepared.

About Emergency Preparedness in LWPTSA

The LWPTSA Council’s Emergency Preparedness (E‑Prep) Committee:

  • Offers training and networking for PTSA emergency prep chairs across the district.
  • Shares guidance on supplies, drills, safety education, and community involvement.
  • Holds regular committee meetings (online or in person) to help schools stay up-to-date on safety practices.
  • Provides resources such as supply lists, safety spotlights, and district emergency procedure documents.

Why This Matters

Emergencies can happen at any time—earthquakes, power outages, severe weather, or safety incidents. Being prepared means our school can respond quickly, calmly, and effectively. With PTSA support, we help build a community that is resilient and ready, together.
