EMS Counseling

The Counseling Office offers a whole host of services. EMS has multiple counselors, and students are assigned to a specific counselor based on last name.

Check the school website to find out current counselors.

Your school counselor will remain the same in 6th, 7th and 8th grade.

Encourage your student to meet with their counselor.

Services provided:

  • Course registration and scheduling
  • Monitoring of student academic progress, and individual planning
  • Academic, personal/social and career advising
  • Coordination of referrals for community resources
  • Introduction of the High School & Beyond Plan in 8th Grade, and discussions about opportunities students have in high school
  • Personal/Social support includes adjustment to their new school, navigating social life (i.e. feeling left out, conflicts), mental health concerns (i.e. anxiety, depression, grief, suicidal ideation).

Parents can help school counselors by sharing relevant information that pertains to their academic or behavioral success at school, including changes that are happening at home.

School Counselor Role:

We provide classroom lessons to students on a variety of topics including career exploration, stress management, and suicide prevention.

To make an appointment, we prefer parents to reach out by email or ParentSquare, or you can call the main office at 425-936-2320.  We often have very busy schedules, so please be aware that unscheduled drop-ins are often difficult for us.

For students who wish to meet with their counselor, they can stop by when they are at school (before school, during lunch are great times to do this), or they can send an email.  If we are not available, we can send a pass for the student at a later time when we are available (ideally the same day, sometimes it is the next day.)

When should I consider contacting the school counselor?  When your child is /has:
  • experiencing social/emotional distress
  • an academic concern, and the problem hasn't been solved after working with the teacher(s)
  • experiencing a significant behavioral or mental health change.  (If not sure, please call or email.)
